“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”? Not always.

Be like the single blade of grass. For she too, has been trampled on, mowed down, and hit with such bitterly cold stretches that she had to shut down to survive. Yet still she stands upright with dignity, knowing that she endures, and still she dances with the wind.

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”

How many times have you heard that when going through some trial or tribulation?  I’ve heard it more times than I could ever count.  And you know what?  I disagree with it.  Always have, always will.

Sometimes what doesn’t kill you crushes you, drags you down, drains you, traumatizes you, wears you out…

Sometimes it takes a toll on you, shakes you to your core, robs you of all manner of personal resources, leaves you feeling like a shadow of your former self…

It changes you, in ways that can feel anything but ‘stronger.’

So, if this resonates with you, please take care of yourself, be gentle to yourself, be kind to yourself, and know that you are not alone…  Then, when you are ready, stand up straight, with your head held high, and show the world your enduring, resilient self.
